Imagine what your life would be like if you lived each day uncomfortably. (I don’t mean living in the streets, or camping in the woods. Although that could be considered extremely uncomfortable). LOL!
However that’s not what I mean.
By living life uncomfortably, I mean, waking up each day and taking certain actions that make you squirm. That make your hands sweat. That make you question your own abilities. Actions that force you to leap outside the confines of your own safety net.
For some, this could be giving a speech, sky diving, taking on a new job, starting your own business, or writing your first book. For others it could be as simple as blogging everyday, creating a weekly newsletter, producing a video, a webinar, or a tele-seminar.
We all have our own compass that determines what we will do, or won’t do, based on what we THINK we’re capable of. We base our assumptions on paste experiences, or the lack of.
And when we don’t have any reference point (prior experience) the monkey’s in our mind begin to chatter, and we secretly begin to question our own ability to handle the task.
Here’s my point…
The person who stands on the stage and gives a speech started WITHOUT a reference point.
The person who starts their first business does so WITHOUT a reference point.
When anyone starts ANYTHING new, they do so WITHOUT a reference point. But the ones who live large take action IN SPITE of being uncomfortable.
Because they know this is what they MUST DO in order to walk towards their goals. They know the pain of NOT taking action is FAR WORSE than the pain of taking action. They know that INACTION only leads to regret, boredom, and unhappiness.
BEST WE SLAY THAT DRAGON NOW!
So Here’s The Key…
We can’t earn a higher living, or reach our true potential UNTIL we’re willing to live life uncomfortably.
Last year I made the decision to join Toastmasters. I knew if I was going to fulfill my biggest dreams I had to have the ability to stand before an audience and speak.
3 Noteworthy People Who Live Life Uncomfortably…
Henry Fonda: Henry Fonda said that he would get so nervous before a live performance he’d BLOW CHOW. Even in his 70’s, Fonda was still nervous as hell, but he was willing to take action in spite of being terrified of a live performance.
In other words… If you want an extraordinary life, get used to doing things you normally wouldn’t dare.
Not long ago Barbara Walters interviewed Meryl Streep. She asked how she chose movie rolls. Meryl’s reply… “I take rolls that scare me to death. It’s the only way I can stretch myself, grow, and get better as an actor.”
We don’t ever want to live life from the sidelines. We have to become an ACTIVE player in our own game if we’re going to cross that goal line and hoist that golden trophy.
Will we screw-up – YES? Will we look foolish – YES? Will we be terrified things won’t work out – YES? But that’s where the excitement lies.
The zest for living life LARGE happens when we decide to step from behind the curtain and take action in the direction of our goals – not for what it will BRING US, but for what it will MAKE OF US.
We’re stronger than we give ourselves credit for, AND we can do the most amazing things, if we just believe that growth comes from placing ourselves in situations that are uncomfortable for the person we are today.
And By The Way… Let’s get use to being uncomfortable. WHY? Because when we’re constantly growing the fear NEVER ENDS!
Let me know, in the comment section below, one thing you could you do today that might make you a little uncomfortable, but by taking on this fear would bring you closer to your goals?
